What is this mysterious object?

This morning when we came in to do our early work we saw this photo. We had to guess what it was and describe it. Habeeb remembered that Benjamin said it looked like a circle. Jamal said it looked slimy, but when he touched the potato he said it was quite hard. Zoe thought it looked like spit because it was all white.

Then Mr Ellis showed us what was in the picture. It was a potato. Something strange had happened to them in his cupboard at home.

We are going to try and figure out what it was!

Sunflower seeds

Year One worked with Mr Walter. We planted some sunflower seeds with compost and water. We put them in the sun  because they need light.

What's inside the packet?

This morning for our early work we had to guess what was inside the packets that Mr Ellis put on our whiteboard. Some of us thought seeds were inside. Some of us thought sunflowers were inside. Some of us weren't sure what we might find!

Here are some of our ideas:

Next, two volunteers came and opened the packet carefully with some scissors. Look at what they found...

Sunflower seeds!

This afternoon we learned how to plant a seed in some compost inside a plastic bag. We're going to hang them somewhere sunny inside our classroom and see what happens to them. Thanks to Mr Walter who helped us with our planting!

What do you think will happen to our seeds? How long do you think it might take? What do you think we will see first? Why not leave a comment on our blog to let us know your ideas, and keep watching here and on our Twitter page for more sunflower seed updates...

Well done to Saskia who did some very grown-up Maths work this week with Mrs Whiteley. We were both VERY impressed with her skills!

Spiders Everywhere!

Connie wanted to take a photo (it's the one at the top) and post on the blog to say a big 'thank you' to Mrs Whiteley for teaching Year One over the last two days. She said they've really enjoyed learning about how to carefully pot a spider plant, and all went home very happy with their own plants to look after. I wonder who will look after their plant the most carefully...?

Thanks, Mrs Whiteley!

Minifigs

We  made  Lego  Minifigs.

We  made a    alayon  and robot.

Plants

Today we started our new topic on plants. When we came into class this morning we had to look carefully at two plants on our desks. We drew them and thought of adjectives to describe them. They were the same species but they looked really different, as you can see from our photo.

Then this afternoon we worked with Mrs Whiteley to carefully observe lots of different types of plants. We had to try and think of the best adjectives to describe their leaves, stems and flowers.

Thanks, Mrs Whiteley, for a really fun start to our topic. Keep watching our blog to see how much we learn about plants in the next few weeks!
