Our Trip to Staircase House

Last Friday we went to a museum called Staircase House. The museum is a real house that people used to live in, hundreds of years ago. We left a modern part of the museum and went over magical bridge to the old house. While we crossed the bridge we all wished hard for a mistress - a servant who worked in the house a very long time ago - to appear. She did! She was really friendly and told us lots of facts about the things in the house, the people who used to live there, and helped us with some really fun activities. It was a fantastic day and we learned a LOT! Come and ask us about some of the things we found out...

Art week

As part of Art Week we have created our initials using scratch sheets. We drew a design on paper, making our initials using big bubble letters, and filling them in with pictures of things we find important. We then carefully re-created our design using scratch sheets, using tools to scratch away the black top layer to reveal the colours underneath.

Thanks to Beth, an art expert, who came in to help us.

Can you guess what we are describing?

We are learning about houses this term in Year One. We have been thinking about things you might find inside a house and describing them to each other by giving clues.

Can you guess which things we are describing?

It is hot.
It might be steamy.
If you've got tummy ache you put it on your tummy.
If it's cold you can take it to bed to keep warm.
What is it?
(By Mahum and Lacy)

You sit on it.
It can be made from wood.
It can be made from plastic.
It has legs.
You can pick it up.
What is it?
(By Saarah and Abdullah)

It cleans the floor.
It's got a button to switch it off and on.
Sometimes it's black.
It can be any colour.
It's the shape of a speedboat.
It has a curvy tube.
What is it!

Cock a Doodle Christmas

This is what we looked like just before we performed our Christmas play, Cock-a-Doodle Christmas. We felt very nervous but we really enjoyed performing, especially singing the songs.

What do you think of our costumes? Can you guess which characters we all played?

Which material should we build our boat from?

Miss Murray worked with us last week to try and find the best material to make a boat. We tested lots of materials by putting them in water and seeing what happened. The materials needed to be able to float, as well as being waterproof.

Come and ask us which material we thought was the best.
