Letters and Sounds in the Playground

On Friday morning the weather was lovely so we decided to practise our letters and sounds skills in the sunshine. We took seem coloured chalks out to the playground and practised making words using our sound of the day: Z. 

We really enjoyed doing our writing in a different way and hope we get some more sunny mornings so we can work outside again!

Beebot Maths

We've been using the beebots a LOT this year. We've made our own number tracks, and we love getting them out to help with our calculating skills. On Friday a group worked with Mrs Shahid, using the beebots to help them work out the answers to some tricky addition problems.

Mystery Writer

Did you notice one of the 'have a go' activities this week on our writing cupboard? It asked you to write come captions, which we've been practising in our English lessons, to go with some photographs of animals.

One of you wrote some fantastic captions. I think I know who did them, but can you guess who it was?

Number Tracks

One of our 'have a go' activities this week involved putting the missing numbers onto some number tracks. Which one of you managed to find all of these missing numbers? You did a great job!

Blending Sounds

We've been working hard every day on our Letters and Sounds skills. To practise blending our sounds together to make words, Mr Ellis asked us to find the right sound cards, place them together in a row, put a piece of paper over the top, and rub it with a wax crayon. Look at what happened!

Well done, boys, for some super blending work!

More labels!

We've learned that labels can be useful in lots of different ways, so we've not just been sticking labels onto objects in our classroom. We added labels (and captions) to pictures of different animals on the computer.

We also learned about using labels on diagrams, and added labels to diagrams of faces as part of our Science topic.

We also labelled parts of our bodies using Pic Collage on the iPads. 

Labels, labels everywhere...

We've had a fun, busy start to our new year in Year One. Everybody's settled in well and we've been enjoying getting to know one another and find our way around a new classroom. 

With this in mind, we wanted to create some labels to show which things are found in our classroom. We've been learning to write captions, lists and labels in our English lessons, so this activity gave us a chance to show off our new skills. As you can see from the photos, lots of children wanted to make sure they labelled Mr Ellis!

Why not have a go at making some labels for the things in your bedroom at home. Remember to ask permission first!
