What do plants need to grow?

We've begun our new topic about plants in Year One this week. We want to try and find out what plants need to grow.

We got some purple flowers and split them into four groups. We put two groups of flowers - one in water, one with no water - near the sink in the sunshine. We out the other two groups - one with water, and one with no water - in the cupboard in the dark.

Which flowers do you think will last the longest? What will happen to the plants that don't have water? Will they be able to live for a long time in a dark place?
