Last week we got chance to play with lots of magnets in class. We investigated which materials they would stick to, and worked together to try and find out whether there were any special features of magnets that would make them useful for different jobs.

Miss Murray invented a fantastic game where we had to try and pick up metal paper clips on the table using our magnets. It was a lot of fun!

Today we worked with Miss Murray to make a class pictogram showing the most common hair colour in Year One.

Anti-Bullying Week

It's Anti-bullying week at school this week so we've been thinking about some of the things that bullies would say or do, and about what we can do if we're being bullied or we see someone being bullied.

We decided that it's always better to tell a grown up, even though bullies can be really scary!

Minecraft

This afternoon I have been creating a house in Minecraft.

I used a woodpecker and a window.

It was fun.

Can we label our school?

We have just started a new science topic all about materials. We have been thinking about the reasons why different objects are made from different materials - why do shoes need to be waterproof? Why do pencils have to be light and easy to pick up?

It was such a sunny morning this morning that we decided to go out into the school playground and make some lists of all the materials that have been used to build the different parts of our school. We saw glass, bricks, wood and lots of others.

How many materials can you see when you look carefully at our school building?

Around Our School

This week we began a new topic, learning about the area around our school.

We took the iPads out onto Valley Rd and took lots of pictures of houses, roads, signs and many other things. Then we went back into class and looked at our photos together.

We used the photos to draw pictures of the things around our school. We have been learning about how to use labels in out Literacy lessons, so we added some labels to make our pictures really clear.
