The wax was hard so we had to squeeze it in our hands to warm it up. Once it was soft enough we could mould it into the shapes we needed.

We can make candles!
As part of our Light and Dark topic we designed candles. Today we used wax to make them.
Max finds out about light and dark
Max wanted to find out about light. He asked Discovery Dog and Naughty Nora to show him how to use a torch. He found out that if you shine a torch on something dark you can see it clearly. If you shine a torch on something light it's hard to see.
Magic Paint
This morning we used special magic paint to create some pictures. The paint was 'luminous' which means 'it glows in the dark'.
We can't wait to take our pictures home and see what they look like at night time.
Which materials will light shine through?
Yesterday, while our classroom was dark, we learned some new words - opaque, translucent and transparent. They explain how see-through things are. We then shone our torches through different materials to find out which ones let the light come through.
We had a lot of fun and learned which would be the best materials to make our shadow puppets.

Snap Happy
Today we had some special visitors to our school. The team from Starsnappers came to teach us about taking photographs. We took lots of photos of them while they too lots of photos of us!

Dark classroom
This week Mr Ellis made our classroom dark. He covered the windows with black plastic.
We thought about how the darkness made us feel. We also looked to see what we could see in the dark. We lit some candles to see what it was like in the half-light.

Can you see colours in the dark?
This afternoon we got some boxes and made holes in them. Then we put different coloured objects inside.
We looked through the holes to see whether we could see the colours.
It was hard to see the colours when the hole was small.
When the hole was big it was easy to see them.
It was easy to see with a bigger hole because more light was coming into the box.
